It was her appreciation for the valuable role that the healthcare system will eventually play in our lives that led Cheryl Ng to take up a healthcare scholarship to pursue the National University of Singapore’s Master of Science in Business Analytics programme. “Growing up, I have personally seen how having a good healthcare system has benefited the people I love and care for. Now, I look forward to giving back and doing my part,” she says.Four years post-graduation, the recipient of the Healthcare Graduate Studies Award (HGSA), leverages her background in Mathematics and Business Analytics, to gain insights into patients’ behaviour which results in better population health management. Recounting her experience as a healthcare scholar, Cheryl shared that the HGSA scholarship provided her with many invaluable opportunities. “I remember attending healthcare industry events like the Singapore Mental Health Conference, sitting in sessions with the senior management in the MOH Holdings Pte Ltd (MOHH), and even completing an internship with MOHH’s data analytics department! I am very thankful for these opportunities. Not only have they helped to equip me with the right competencies and knowledge required in my field of work, the entire experience has broadened my understanding and perspective of healthcare in Singapore.”As a Senior Specialist under IHiS’ Planning Group, Cheryl works alongside healthcare providers and policy makers to gain insight from the data using techniques for big data analytics. If there is one thing which she truly loves about her work, it is “the privilege of seeing the years and months I spent toiling over a project come to fruition and impacting the lives of patients!” she exclaims.On a more personal note, Cheryl is happy for the opportunity to have met with various scholars, clinicians and researchers from different backgrounds and areas of expertise. “Knowing that everybody is working towards a common goal to provide better patient care in Singapore gives me a great sense of joy and affirmation!” Find out more about careers at IHiS here.
